MSR gear in use outdoors

est. 1969

MSR

MSR arrived with its own separate history: founded in 1969 as a mountaineering-safety newsletter by engineer Larry Penberthy, it built its reputation on the Model 9 stove, a white-gas burner so reliable in the cold that climbers nicknamed it “Krakatoa.”

Mountain Safety Research has delivered a consistent flow of ground-breaking innovations with unbeatable reliability — iconic camp stoves and water treatment solutions, snowshoes, tents and more.

Therm-a-Rest gear in use outdoors

est. 1972

Therm-a-Rest

It started in Seattle in 1972, when three out-of-work Boeing engineers wrapped foam in nylon fabric using a sandwich press and invented Therm-a-Rest, the world's first self-inflating sleeping pad.

The brand that changed how people sleep outdoors is still designed and largely built in the same US and European facilities today.

est. 1986

SealLine

SealLine, added in 1986, brought proprietary RF-welded waterproof fabric that's still the reference standard for serious gear protection on water.

Unfailing gear protection in the world's most challenging environments, thanks to the highest-quality waterproof fabrics and unmatched proprietary RF-welding.

PackTowl gear in use outdoors

est. 1993

PackTowl

PackTowl, added in 1993, turned the ordinary travel towel into something that genuinely dries fast enough to matter.

The original light, packable, hyper-absorbent adventure towel. Use it, wring it, re-use it — traditional towel performance at a fraction of the size and dry time.

Platypus gear in use outdoors

est. 1996

Platypus

Platypus followed in 1996, rethinking hydration around collapsible, packable bottles and reservoirs built for daily use rather than just the trail.

Water bottles, treatment and delivery solutions for everyday hydration, from city to trail, in taste-free materials that pack away to nothing when empty.

Our values

The pillars behind every product.

  1. Service

The highest quality products, backed by unrivalled support, delivered under a code of responsibility that looks past today.

  2. Quality

Extensive in-house and field testing, with the majority of production built in-house in Reno, Nevada and Midleton, Ireland.

  3. Support

A worldwide warranty and repair programme staffed by outdoor enthusiasts, so damaged gear gets serviced rather than replaced.

  4. Responsibility

Clean air, water and wild places treated as business fundamentals, with employees, environment and balance sheet on equal terms.

  5. Domestic production

Hundreds of jobs in the US and Ireland, and far less inefficiency than shipping products around the world and back again.
